Opened in 1931 as the Paramount Cinema it had seats for over 2500 people and showings were accompanied by a Wurlitzer organ which rose up from the floor. As well as films, the cinema also held music concerts and even had an orchestra pit. Bands that played here included the Rolling Stones, The Who and Rod Stewart. The cinema finally closed in 2002 and was demolished in 2017.
