aerial photographs of Rufford Abbey Nottinghamshire England UK. Founded in 1147 as a Cistercian Abbey, it was dissolved by Henry VIII in 1536. The remains were rebuilt as a country house in the 16th Century. The Abbey was bought by Nottinghamshire County Council in 1952 who then demolished the North Wing and East Wing. What remains of the building is now Grade I listed and under the care of English Heritage.

aerial photographs of Welbeck Abbey Nottinghamshire England UK. Founded as an Abbey in 1140 which was dissolved by Henry VIII and later converted into a country house. Most of what we see today dates from the 17th Century but parts of the old Abbey are incorporated within the existing building.Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife stayed here just before his assassination triggered the first world war.The site became an army hospital during the first world war and after the second world war it was used as an Army training colledge until 2005.
