aerial photograph of Battle Abbey East Sussex England UK. Grade I listed Battle Abbey was bult on the orders of William The Conquer shortly after the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Legend had it that the Abbey was built on the site of the battle and the Altar was built on the spot where King Harold fell. The Abbey was dissolved by Henry VIII and today the ruins are preserved by English Heritage.
