aerial photograph of Clifton Viaduct Greater Manchester UK. Grade II listed Clifton Viaduct was built in 1846 and carried the Manchester, Bury and Rossendale Railway, over the River Irwell. On the left is the Grade II listed Clifton Aqueduct which was built in 1796 to take the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal across the River Irwell. The railway closed in 1966 and the canal in 1961, however there are plans to restore the canal.
