aerial photograph of Flint Castle Flintshire Wales. Built by Edward Longshanks ( Edward 1st) in 1277 as the first of his "Iron Ring" around the rebellious Welsh.The Castle was besieged by the Welsh in 1282 and again in 1294 when it was burnt.
Edward also had a settlement laid out which has today become the town of Flint. Richard II surrendered to Henry Bolingbroke ( Henry iv) here in 1399 and the Castle was besieged by Parliamentarians in 1647 before it was eventually slighted under Cromwell´s orders at the end of the English Civil War.
